Mickey Mouse Birthday

My baby turned 2!  So, we had a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Birthday.  I found my cake design and invitations on playhousedisney.com 

Here are the pictures of my process in making the cake.  4 vanilla and 1 chocolate can of icing.  The website gives instructions on how much to dye each color.  Once I baked my white 9 x 13 cake I sat it in the freezer over night.  This especially helps if you have some crumbling pieces to try and ice over.

Top half is light blue

The bottom half is green

Then place in the freezer for about 2 hours or until the frosting is frozen

Meanwhile print off the Clubhouse template

I then traced it onto wax paper.  It seemed a little more sanitary to me.  Then cut it out along the edges

Once the icing is frozen pull out of the freezer and place your outline on top.

Outline the play house with the appropriate colors.

Once that is done gently remove your stencil or some of your outline may come off. 

Then fill in the rest of the clubhouse with the appropriate colors.

I didn't have any piping bags so mine is a little messy

I found these cute little Mickey Mouse ears at Wal-Mart. 

We did have some girls coming so we needed a few Minnie Mouse ears

I bought pink ribbon with white poka dots

I then tied them into a bow and place a dot of craft glue on the back

And then placed the bow on top of the headband.

I think they turned out super cute!

I bought the table cloth, Happy Birthday sign, cups, plates, and napkins from Wal-Mart

And to add to the theme I made different color dots and taped them to the wall

I then found a Mickey Mouse Sand Pail at the Dollar tree and placed the forks in it. 

 And our big Mickey we had already.

In last Weeks Friday folder we got a list of Themes for this week as my son's school celebrates Dr. Seuss.  Yesterday was PJ's, today is Wear Green and Crazy glasses, Tomorrow is backwards day.  All easy.  But, then comes Thursday.... Wear Antlers and a Heart.  Ummm, wish I knew this in December!  And since I couldn't send my kid with nothing I had to get crafty.  I found a headband with rabbit ears so this is how I turned it into Moose Antlers.

First I found some of my Florist wire and twisted it around the ears and sticking out in all directions for my antler form.

Then I got 4 sheets of brown felt.  I put one piece under each ear and traced the outline.  My lines were about an inch away from the wire and ears. And then putting two pieces together I cut out the felt.

Ok, now pull out your brown felt scrapes and find some straight pieces or cut some to work.  Wrap the head band with the brown felt gluing as you go

Here is where I wasn't sure what to do.  I thought about sewing the felt but then I wasn't sure how to slip them on the ears.  So, Instead I decided on craft glue.  I put one piece under the ears and taped the wires to the felt and then took small pieces of newspaper to stuff the ears.  I then glued all the way around... but then the glue wasn't working by the time I got to another section.  So what you need to do is lay the other piece on top and then gradually work yourself around the edges.  Gluing and pressing till it holds and then move on.

Once you have both ears done you can bend them however you like.  Here is mine finished.

Now if you are ever faced with Thedwick the Big Hearted moose you can be super mom and make these crazy antlers.

Threads of Compassion

I have found a wonderful charity right here in Oklahoma.  Threads of Compassion was started by a lady in Edmond.  If you knit or crochet you can make a scarf that goes to a woman that has been sexually abused.  It is a tangible item for them to have to know they are not alone and someone cares for them.  If you would like to know more go here.


Here is my first one.  I bought just a little yarn because I didn't know if my skills would be good.

Once I was done I went to the store to get more yarn.  Opps, I got the wrong shade.  Now it has become multi colored!  I need to do another section of the lighter blue.  I think that will be the completion.  Then on to another!
